Changes in Family Law since April 2014

The Family Courts  undergo significant change from 22nd April 2014 with the introduction of the Single Family Court and the consequential changes brought about by the Children and Families Act 2014. Most significant is the removal of Residence and Contact Orders and their replacement with a Child Arrangement Order.

To make an application to the Family Court in most situations you must have attempted mediation before the Court will accept the application. Clicking here to find a local mediator.

In Section 12 of the Children and Families Act 2014. it talks about the Child Arrangements Order, stating that it is :-

" an order regulating arrangements relating to any of the following -

a) with whom a child is to live, spend time or otherwise have contact

b) when a child is to live, spend time or otherwise have contact with any person.
